Olam began operations here in Mozambique in 1999, buying cashew in the Northern province of Nampula.

Today, we are one of the largest employers, with 800 staff and nearly 3,500 seasonal workers operating across 23 locations.

With an extensive distribution network spanning most of Mozambique’s towns, our rice business has flourished following the launch of our award-winning Mama African and Royal Aroma brands.

We are now growing our edible oils distribution business through this same network. Our 2 refining facilities in Sofala and Maputo Provinces are providing further synergies between our edible oil processing and distribution business.

We also operate 3 cotton concessions in the North and Central regions, where we actively support some 40,000 farmers’ livelihoods. We ensure they receive the necessary inputs (like seeds and fertiliser) and financing to improve yields and productivity, and secure a ready market for their produce by buying directly from them.

Olam is also proud to provide work and livelihood for many women. At our cashew processing factories, as an example, over 90% of our 1,500 workers are women. We also continue to work with experts to improve our peanut, cashew, sesame and cotton sourcing operations, as well as strengthen our smallholder programmes.
