    Our commitment during the COVID-19 pandemic.

    As we continue to navigate COVID-19, we have seen first-hand the impact this pandemic has on people and communities across our different geographies. Our number one priority has always been safeguarding and supporting people – our employees as well as those in our communities. 

    Amidst the challenges that the global pandemic has posed, our team across the globe has come together to support each other, our customers, and our communities.  

    In these unprecedented times, we have adapted to new ways of working and to finding solutions to ensure business continuity, maintain our operations, continue to serve our customers and play our role in supplying quality, safe food ingredients and agricultural products.

    We are committed to our purpose of Re-imagining Global Agriculture and Food Systems to ensure we emerge stronger, together from this crisis.  

    Protecting the Health of Our People

    We remain vigilant in our efforts to safeguard our workforce and we have put in place steps to protect our employees’ health and wellbeing and mitigate impacts on our operations and our supply chains.

    Our multiple origins, end-to-end integration, supply chain control and ‘can-do’ spirit has meant we are well-positioned to manage the impact of the pandemic on our operations and meet our customers’ requirements.

    We maintain best practice additional health and safety measures, as well as revised working protocols, across our offices, manufacturing facilities, estates and business locations in line with the information and guidance provided by global and national health authorities.

    We offer help and resources to support employees’ physical and mental wellbeing, providing medical assistance, testing and information and support to access vaccinations, where needed. 

    Supporting Farmers and Communities

    Our teams are going well beyond the usual course of business to use Olam’s local and global network to work with local governments, health organisations, NGOs and rural communities during this crisis.

    Through in-kind and financial support, we have provided essential assistance to meet critical medical, healthcare, food and nutritional needs facing communities around the world. Our relief efforts are delivering assistance on-the-ground, such as sensitising 20,000 coffee and cocoa farmers in Indonesia about measures to protect against COVID-19 via our digital apps; producing 3D printed masks for police and social workers in Spain; distributing US$100k of medical equipment and essential food supplies in Nigeria; distributing food and nutritional support to coffee farmers in Peru.

    In April 2021, an Olam-conducted survey of over 3,400 farmers across 19 countries showed the impact smallholder farmers have seen to their incomes, livelihoods and their communities as changes and disruptions have been felt across global food and agricultural supply chains. These insights confirmed what we’re seeing and are helping inform how we continue to respond on the ground in rural communities.
