Landscape of high carbon stock forest in Congo

    Wood Products

Through subsidiary Congolaise Industrielle des Bois (CIB), we’ve delivered high quality and sustainably sourced timber for over 50 years. It comes exclusively from our forest concessions in the Republic of Congo.

Our five modern saw mills have a capacity of 300,000 m3 of input logs. They allow us to treat various species and dimensions of logs and sawn timber.

Not only can we recommend the right species to meet customer needs, we can tailor products to specification. We’ve a moulding unit and a furniture workshop, which produce finished products and high-quality furniture. Our wood has a variety of end uses such as door and window frames, flooring, marine timber, and furniture and housing, and is sold both within ROC and internationally.

"Our strong on-the-ground presence enables us to provide a highly informed service for our customers as we can better anticipate short-term movements and long-term trends. We work closely with production units to ensure consistent supply, while maintaining a clear and transparent chain of custody.”

    Sustainable and Responsible Forestry Management

We’re committed to responsible and sustainable forestry management, which reduces impact on the lives of communities living in the forests and the biodiversity.

Our concessions in the Republic of Congo cover about two million hectares, and are managed by our subsidiary Congolaise Industrielle des Bois (CIB). Olam maintains FSC certification for 100% of its natural forest concessions in the Republic of Congo (license numbers).

On our sawmill site, our high capacity industrial kiln dryers are driven by a wood fired cogeneration power plant, and use spent steam from the cogeneration unit, making this one of the most ecologically friendly operations in Africa.

    Healthy and Safety

As with the rest of our business, the team in the Republic of Congo is committed to maintaining a “Safety First” culture. Our goal is “zero lost time incidents (LTIs)”.

As a result of continuous efforts, we’ve seen a marked reduction and recorded a LTIFR of 1.2 in 2019, with annual person-hours of 3.43 million. In the last two years, the LTI has reduced to 1/8th.

We work towards eliminating as many risks as we can which cause injury or illness.
