Olam participates in the 8th Annual NUS RMI Risk Management Conference in Singapore : Navigating Risks in Emerging Markets, 10th – 11th July 2014
Jagdish Parihar, MD & Global Head, Risk, Compliance and Internal Audit was recently a panel speaker at the 8th Annual National University of Singapore (NUS) Risk Management Institute (RMI) Conference. The topic of the panel was “Navigating Risks in Emerging Markets”. He presented alongside Kevin Lu, MD at Partners Group and Kelvin Tay, Regional Chief Investment Officer, UBS. The discussion was moderated by Chia Woon Khien, Senior Portfolio Manager, Nikko AM Asia Limited.
Jagdish focused on the full spectrum of risk categories across the agri-value chain, addressing several key questions:
• With the anticipated change in the global interest rate environment, what would be the general impact on commodity business viability/investment trends in emerging markets?
• What are the key filters used to make investment choices in emerging markets?
• To what extent do EMs have a different set of risks and management system than developed?
The session then went on to discuss mitigation steps and a broad set of success factors that allow for companies to rise up again risk challenges in emerging markets and to grow responsibly.
