Transcending Boundaries: Why should businessmen support public policy education?

    News

Businesses thrive in countries with good governance and those who want practical proof should look no further than Singapore. The country has consistently believed that good governance is essential to fostering an ideal business environment. It is no wonder that the nation’s Cabinet has one of the highest proportion of Public Policy graduates of any Cabinet in the world.

In the latest contribution to our Transcending Boundaries Series, Professor Mahbubani discusses the importance of businesses supporting public policy education and how this would not only back business interests, but contribute to a higher ethical goal as they help develop better societies. Through this, businesses will be able to transcend boundaries, while also helping nations to transcend theirs, to the benefit of all.

Kishore Mahbuabani is Dean and Professor in the practice of Public Policy of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore and a recognised expert on Asian and world affairs. He was conferred The Public Administration Medal (Gold) by the Singapore Government in 1998, and The Foreign Policy Association Medal in New York in June 2004. Professor Mahbubani was listed as one of the top 100 public intellectuals in the world by Foreign Policy and Prospect magazines in September 2005, one of the Top 50 individuals who would shape the debate on the future of capitalism in March 2009’s issue of Financial Times and one of Foreign Policy’s Top Global Thinkers in 2010 and 2011.  Most recently, he was selected by Prospect magazine as one of the top 50 world thinkers for 2014.
