Transcending Boundaries: Journey of a global champion

    News

A week on from Olam’s gala dinner at which our partners, customers, employees and friends gathered to celebrate 25 years of growing responsibly, IE Singapore’s CEO, Teo Eng Cheong, takes a closer look at how Olam reached this milestone, exploring the demands on global companies in comparison to those on domestic ones. For Mr Teo, there are three key success factors for any multinational: designing a viable business model that is repeatable in different markets; developing a globally-oriented organisation with the appropriate systems, culture and people; and working towards mutual benefits with local communities.

Mr Teo was appointed CEO of IE Singapore in 2011, before which he was the Chief Executive of the Competition Commission of Singapore (CCS) from 2008 to 2010, and the Director-General of Singapore Customs from 2004 to 2007. Mr Teo also served at the Economic Development Board, Monetary Authority of Singapore, and the then-Ministry of Community Development and Sports. Mr Teo is also the Deputy Chairman of Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (SCE) and sits on the boards of IE Singapore, IE Singapore Holdings Pte Ltd, Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority, Ascendas Funds Management (S) Limited, ASEAN Infrastructure Fund (AIF) and Council for Private Education.
