    News

Olam continues to reaffirm its position as a leader in sustainability after winning ‘Sustainability in the Community’ at the prestigious Sustainable Business Awards (SBA) Singapore 2015. The Company took home the honour at the presentation ceremony held during the Responsible Business Forum Singapore at Marina Bay Sands on 3rd November 2015.

With our extended network of 3.9 million farmers worldwide, comprising predominantly smallholders, Olam embraces its responsibilities to the communities where we operate. In 2010, we formalised our long-standing commitment to invest in rural communities of emerging countries and play an ongoing lead role in strengthening farmers within the global supply chain through the Olam Livelihood Charter (OLC). By applying the principles of the OLC, we aim to bring prosperity to our farming and rural communities, build long-term relationships based on fairness and trust, and transfer skills and knowledge through partnerships.

Organised by Global Initiatives, the SBA is held in six countries and aims to increase awareness of sustainable business best-practices and demonstrate how sustainable businesses benefit companies, the environment and other stakeholders today and for the future. Entries go through independent, stringent verification and assessment by PwC Consulting, on criteria that include recognition, intention, priority, planning, monitoring, impact measurement and communication of sustainability.
