Briony Mathieson, Global Head of Corporate & Sustainability Communications at Olam International, spoke at this year’s Sustainability Communications Forum at Faversham House, London on the 21st of May. As a leading meeting place for professionals working in sustainability, ethics, communications and CSR, the Forum gave delegates practical guidance to ensure that sustainability communications is being used effectively to engage external and internal stakeholders.

With over 25 years of experience across a full range of communications channels, Briony explored what goes on ‘behind the scenes’ at Olam, using a case study and expert insight from the Olam Livelihood Charter (OLC). She assessed the methods used in order to deliver consumer promises while also considering the challenges of communicating a sustainability programme succinctly. Her talk provided an overview on communicating sustainability progress internally and explored the latest approaches in measuring sustainability issues. Briony recently spoke with the Ethical Corporation about how Olam does this.

In good company, Briony’s fellow speakers and panellists included Donald Johnson (Head of Corporate Responsibility and Brand Strategy, National Grid), Christian Busch (Associate Director, Innovation and Co-creation Lab, London School of Economics) Oliver Jones (Head of Communications & Sustainability Aggregate Industries) and James Robey, (Group Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Director, Capgemini).
