Sunny Verghese, Co-Founder and Group Chief Executive Officer of Olam, officially took up his role as the new Chair of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) this past week. He succeeded Mr Paul Polman, Chief Executive Officer of Unilever, and will serve a two-year term.

A leading voice of business for sustainability, the WBCSD is a global network of more than 200 CEOs who are responsible for a combined revenue of more than US$8.5 trillion and 19 million employees. Member companies and their CEOs collectively work through WBCSD to accelerate the transition towards sustainable business and a sustainable world.

As the first WBCSD Chair from the agri-sector, Sunny’s priorities align with the organisation’s model of transforming the major systems of the economy. He believes that the potential to create a sustainable future for all is strengthened when business leaders come together to take collective positive action.

Sunny is also the first Asia-based CEO to be elected to the position. Read more about the start of his term at WBCSD’s website here.
